Invasive Species, 17 by Mic Stowell
Clay, Glaze, Luster, 2023
Mic Stowell received his MFA from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, and his MA from Saint Cloud State University. After years of full-time teaching, he can move toward investing his days entirely in his studio practice. Stowell’s work has gone through multiple iterations—from slipcast geometric teapots to tightly painted plates and organic forms—and can be found in collections across the globe from Sanbao Ceramic Art Institute, Jingdezhen, China; to the Polish National Museum, Wroclaw, Poland; to the Appalachian Center for Craft in Cookeville, Tennessee. Stowell is the recipient of a McKnight Fellowship and a three Minnesota State Arts Board grants. Stowell’s current work is pinched from clay coils to make extended tubular forms. He then fires them ten to twenty times to achieve richly satisfying surfaces.
